Hackathons & coding contests
Build, compete and get noticed. Weekly contests for practice, and hackathons where teams win cash, internships and incubation.
Pick contests that match your stage
If you're new, weekly rated contests on CodeChef, Codeforces and LeetCode build speed with almost no stakes. Once you can solve two or three problems per round, try team formats like ICPC, or a 36-hour hackathon on Devfolio or MLH where design, pitching and teamwork count as much as code.
Data science competitions on Kaggle reward patience: read the evaluation metric first, build a simple baseline, then improve it in small, measured steps. Public notebooks are the best free course in applied machine learning.
